Change an EPUB cover

Replace or add the cover of any DRM-free EPUB with a JPEG or PNG image. Free, no sign-up, and your file never leaves your device.

How to change an EPUB cover

  1. Choose your EPUB file or drag it onto the box above.
  2. Click Replace cover and pick a JPEG or PNG image.
  3. Check the preview, and fix the title or author while you are here if you need to.
  4. Click Download edited EPUB. You get a new copy; your original file is not touched.

Recommended cover size

A height-to-width ratio of 1.6 to 1 works on most stores and e-readers. 1600 × 2560 pixels is a safe size. Smaller images work, but may look blurry on high-resolution screens.

What happens to the old cover

If your book already has a JPEG or PNG cover, the new image replaces it under the same file name, so every page that showed the old cover shows the new one. If the book has no cover, one is added and marked as the cover for both EPUB 3 and older EPUB 2 readers. You can also add a cover page at the start of the book.

Your file stays on your device

Everything happens in your browser. Your EPUB and your image are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

My PNG has a transparent background. What happens?

If the book's existing cover is a JPEG, your image is converted to JPEG and transparent areas become white. Use an image without transparency for full control.

Why does my e-reader still show the old cover?

Reading apps cache cover thumbnails. Delete the old copy from the device or app, then add the edited file again.

Can I change the cover of a book I bought?

Only if it is DRM-free. DRM-protected books from Kindle, Kobo or Apple Books cannot be edited.
